Rosing's abstract-symbolic paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States, Germany, Japan, and China in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Rosing’s highly textured violin created for Art of Note is inspired by the trees used in fine instrument making. The relief surface of the violin has been sculpted with acrylic medium before painting, to simulate the bark of Spruce, Maple, and Ebony trees which protected the resonant wood until harvest and refinement by instrument makers. Delicate leaves on the pegs are a reminder of the life within the instrument.
In addition to maintaining an active exhibition career, Rosing has taught
studio art courses at colleges and universities for over 15 years in Madison
and the Chicago area. She teaches studio art in the College Transfer
Art Program at MATC, and also t
eaches painting for UW Madison Department
of Continuing Studies in the Arts.
Rosing has been active in the arts communities where she has lived, including Denver, Chicago, and Madison. In Chicago, she served on the board of A.R.C. Gallery & Educational Foundation in Chicago as Exhibition Curator and Vice-President. As a delegate to the NGO Forum of the Fourth UN Conference on Women held in China in 1995, Rosing spoke on an international panel of artists discussing galleries and art organizations run by women artists.
A native of Wisconsin, Rosing was born and raised in Appleton and attended
the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned an MFA in Painting
and Drawing from Northern Illinois University in 1992. In 1996, Rosing
returned to Madison with her husband and twin sons. Katherine’s son
